The Simpsons

Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Morgan Spurlock (“Super Size Me,” “30 Days”) is set to produce and direct THE SIMPSONS 20TH ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL IN 3-D ON ICE airing Thursday, January 14 on FOX. The documentary special will be the momentous conclusion to the “Best. 20 Years. Ever.,” a year-long global celebration of THE SIMPSONS that launched in January 2009 and culminates on the 20th anniversary of the series’ debut.

In THE SIMPSONS 20TH ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL IN 3-D ON ICE, Spurlock will examine the cultural phenomenon of THE SIMPSONS in his distinctive and innovative style. The special will document how the world sees THE SIMPSONS and how the Simpson family has seen the world for two decades.

“When they first called me about this, I thought it was a prank and I hung up,” said Spurlock. “And then my agent called back and said, ‘No, no, this is for real,’ at which point I fainted. Then when I woke up, I called everyone I knew because it was the coolest thing I could ever get to do in my career.”

Morgan Spurlock has built a career that spans film, television and web programming. His first feature-length documentary, “Super Size Me,” won the Documentary Directing Award at the Sundance Film Festival in 2004 and was nominated for an Academy Award the following year. In 2005, Spurlock formed his Manhattan-based film, television and web production company, Warrior Poets, which is devoted to making socially significant and simultaneously entertaining work. Warrior Poets has produced the feature documentaries “The Third Wave,” “What Would Jesus Buy?” and “Where in the World Is Osama Bin Laden?”

Now the longest-running comedy in television history, THE SIMPSONS immediately struck a chord with viewers across the country as it poked fun at itself and everything in its wake. With its subversive humor and delightful wit, the series has made an indelible imprint on American pop culture, and the family members have become television icons.

NIGEL LYTHGOE, CO-CREATOR OF HIT SERIES “SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE”, ANNOUNCES NATIONAL LAUNCH OF THE DIZZY FEET FOUNDATION

Nigel Lythgoe has announced that he is teaming up with director Adam Shankman, “Dancing with the Stars” judge Carrie Ann Inaba and actress Katie Holmes to launch the Dizzy Feet Foundation, a foundation for the dance community that will provide scholarships and assistance to talented underserved youth to help them realize their dreams of becoming professional dancers and will also help elevate and standardize dance instruction nationwide.

The milestone 100th episode of “So You Think You Can Dance,” airing Thursday, July 23 (9:00-10:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed) on FOX, will feature a special performance by Dizzy Feet Foundation founding member Katie Holmes that will help introduce the foundation to the public. Directed and choreographed by Tyce Diorio in collaboration with director of photography Dion Beebe, Holmes’ highly anticipated performance will be an homage to Judy Garland and will feature Holmes dancing to and singing Garland’s classic, “Get Happy,” from the musical “Summer Stock.” “I think it’s important for children to experience music and dance,” said Holmes. “Every child should have the opportunity to discover what it is they like and have access to the very best in that pursuit.” Harnessing the power of the millions of viewers who watch “So You Think You Can Dance,” as well as the growing popularity of dance in the United States, the Dizzy Feet Foundation will create awareness about the positive impact that dance – and creative pursuits in general – can have on the growth and development of our nation’s youth.

The Dizzy Feet Foundation’s mission is threefold: (1) to provide scholarships and grants to talented dancers, choreographers and/or teachers working at or through accredited dance studios; (2) to establish national standards for dance education and an accreditation program for dance; (3) to develop, provide and support dance education programs for underserved children by working through and with community organizations. The Dizzy Feet Foundation also aims to elevate and standardize the quality of dance instruction throughout the United States by offering accreditation and/or certification to dance schools and studios in most styles of dance, including ballroom, contemporary, ballet, tap, jazz and hip hop. Dizzy Feet Foundation’s Accreditation Program will set the gold standard of dance instruction in the United States and ensure that students can feel confident that they are receiving high-quality dance instruction aligned to a national standard.

“Directing and producing is what I do, but dancing is what I am. That’s why the foundation is so important to me,” noted founding member Adam Shankman. “Dizzy Feet will empower disadvantaged and at-risk students by giving them access to the highest quality arts education.” Furthermore, Dizzy Feet Foundation founding members agree it is imperative that Los Angeles have a major dance academy.

“If we’re not going to have dance in our schools, we need to create additional opportunities to bring dance to our youth,” said founding member Carrie Ann Inaba. “And I think the Dizzy Feet Foundation will be doing exactly that.” “Making ‘Idol Gives Back’ was a rewarding undertaking that changed my life forever,” explained Lythgoe. “It taught me to ‘give back.’ I have been a dancer, and involved in the dance world, for nearly 50 years – it’s my passion. I feel very grateful to be in a position where I can now give back to the dance community. Thanks to the huge support, enthusiasm and energy of Adam, Carrie Ann and Katie, as well as the rest of the board, it has finally become a reality.”

Since 1993, when legislators imposed revenue caps on public schools, school districts have been forced to make difficult and painful spending cuts. Typically, music and arts programs have been among the first to suffer severe blows. More than 15 years later, the decimation of music and arts programs continues.

“The financial crisis that the whole world is compromised by is affecting the arts big time,” said Dizzy Feet Foundation Steering Committee member Debbie Allen. “We’re on life support right now because it’s the first thing that gets slashed.” The Dizzy Feet Foundation will have the benefit of an Honorary Board, on which 19 Entertainment CEO Simon Fuller, among others, will serve, as well as a Steering Committee consisting of some of the most illustrious names in the American dance and entertainment communities, including Paula Abdul, Jennifer Lopez, Miley Cyrus, Mia Michaels, Mary Murphy, Debbie Allen, Shane Sparks and Lil C. The affiliation of additional Steering Committee members will be confirmed through nominations by the founding members. Members of the Steering Committee are responsible for selecting Dizzy Feet Foundation scholarship recipients and following their journeys.

The Dizzy Feet Foundation will also sponsor, fund and/or offer community-based dance programs that will expose kids in low-income areas to the lifelong benefits of dance education.

Through www.dizzyfeetfoundation.org, supporters have the opportunity to follow their contribution, as well as track the progress of the foundation’s work and the scholarship recipients’ journeys. In order to further its mission, Dizzy Feet accepts tax-deductible contributions from corporations, patrons, supporters and dance fans and raises additional funds through direct solicitations, fundraisers and other events. Dizzy Feet Foundation is a nonprofit, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) charitable organization (Federal Tax ID Number: 26-4501295).

NIGEL LYTHGOE is co-founder of Big Red 2 Entertainment, a newly formed company with CEO of 19 Entertainment, Simon Fuller. Lythgoe also served as producer and director of the acclaimed Céline Dion/Elvis Presley duet featured in the special.

ADAM SHANKMAN is an American film director, dancer, and choreographer. He has been a judge on “So You Think You Can Dance” since the show’s third season. He began his professional career in musical theater, and was a dancer in music videos for Paula Abdul and Janet Jackson. He attended the Juilliard School.

CARRIE ANN INABA is an American dancer, veteran choreographer, actress and television host. She has appeared as one of three judges on “Dancing with the Stars,” the show that pairs celebrities with professional dancers as they train and then compete in front of a studio audience, as well as in “Dance Wars: Bruno vs. Carrie Ann,” where she choreographed and directed her team toward making their music and dance dreams come true. Inaba’s credits include touring with Madonna, appearing in films such as “Austin Powers III: Goldmember,” choreographing for top television shows, including “American Idol,” “TV Land Awards,” “Kids’ Choice Awards,” “Dance Fever” and “So You Think You Can Dance,” in addition to hosting the American Music Awards Red Carpet show. She began her career as one of the Fly Girls on “In Living Color,” a series that broke boundaries and brought Hip Hop into the mainstream. Inaba is currently launching the go-to online dance community, thedanceinsider.com, with her production company, IC Entertainment.

KATIE HOLMES has appeared in films ranging from the action blockbuster “Batman Begins” directed by Christopher Nolan to critically acclaimed art-house pictures, including Ang Lee’s “The Ice Storm” and Peter Hedges’ “Pieces of April.” Holmes is about to start filming “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark.” The film will be produced by Guillermo del Toro, and Holmes will star opposite Guy Pearce. She most recently completed filming “The Extra Man” opposite Kevin Kline, and made her Broadway debut in Arthur Miller’s “All My Sons.” Holmes has worked with some of Hollywood’s most prominent and talented directors. Her credits include “Wonder Boys” directed by Curtis Hanson, “Thank You for Smoking” directed by Jason Reitman, “The Gift” directed by Sam Raimi, “Abandon” directed by Stephen Gaghan, “Go” directed by Doug Liman, “Phone Booth” directed by Joel Schumacher, “The Singing Detective” directed by Keith Gordon, “First Daughter” directed by Forest Whitaker, “Teaching Mrs. Tingle” directed by Kevin Williamson and “Disturbing Behavior” directed by David Nutter. Born and raised in Toledo, Ohio, Holmes began acting in high school theater productions. While attending a national modeling and talent convention in New York, Holmes was encouraged to come to Los Angeles for pilot season auditions. While in Los Angeles, she landed the role as Libbets Casey opposite Tobey Maguire and Sigourney Weaver in Lee’s award-winning drama “The Ice Storm.” A year later she was cast as Joey Potter on the TV series “Dawson’s Creek” opposite James Van Der Beek and Michelle Williams. The show quickly became one of the highest-rated series on television, averaging five million viewers per week throughout its six-season run.

CBSNews.com has launched a new weekly column that gives consumers a behind-the-scenes look at the inner workings of the world’s largest retailers, credit cards programs, loyalty programs, and online shopping. Evan Schuman, the former News Editor for InformationWeek and Retail Editor for PCMagazine and eWEEK, will be writing and reporting for the column.

U.S. retailers carry the most personal information about Americans—from credit card numbers, purchase history and even mobile data about their travel particulars than any entity, other than the U.S. government and it is critical for consumers to pay close attention to how their personal information is shared and used.

In this weekly column, Schuman will explore various retail industry topics including: Are debit cards any more risky than credit cards? What should consumers be aware of when considering a loyalty card? How credible are customer Web site comments? What are RFID tags and can clothing truly be tracked once it leaves the store? A new column will be posted on the site every Friday.

“The Credit Card Reform Bill is an example of the efforts that are being made to protect Americans, but there is much to be done to inform them on the latest happenings in the retail industry,” said Dan Farber, Editor in Chief at CBSNews.com. “The ‘Retail Realities’ column will shed some light into hidden pitfalls and traps, and help consumers protect themselves and their privacy.”  “Major household name retail chains are facing economic threats from stores being shuttered and huge brands being disintegrated,” Schuman said. “So many retailers that are under extraordinary pressure making it that much more important for consumers to have a better understanding of what is really going on behind the various retail programs.”  Schuman has specialized in retail coverage since 1999, where he reported for Retail Information Systems News, Consumers Goods Technology, and was later named the Retail Columnist for PCMagazine and eWEEK. Prior to that, he had served as the News Editor for InformationWeek and TechWeb. He’s also reported for a wide range of consumer media, including the New York Times, Reuters, USA Today, National Public Radio, CNN Radio, the Philadelphia Inquirer and The Baltimore Sun. Currently, he serves as the Editor of StorefrontBacktalk.com, a site that tracks retail technology, E-Commerce and security issues.

Americas Got Talent

America's Got Talent

NBC.com is helping fans enjoy the summer with full episodes of the hottest new NBC summer shows and favorite NBC programs from this past season. From “America’s Got Talent” to “The Office” to full episodes of some of TV’s most beloved hits from the past, NBC.com has the perfect entertainment for lazy summer days.

For the first time in its history, full episodes of summer blockbuster “America’s Got Talent” are streaming on NBC.com, joining full episodes of other summer programs “The Philanthropist,” “Merlin” and “The Listener.” Episodes of “The Great American Road Trip” join the line-up on NBC.com following its on-air premiere (tonight?) Tuesday night at 8/7c on NBC.

Fan Favorites and Staff Picks also make their debut this summer as part of NBC.com’s Summer Roundup. For fans interested in catching up with their favorite episodes, or those just curious to sample the best of other programs, Summer Roundup offers an easy and informative entry into NBC’s line-up. In addition to the most popular episodes viewed by fans, NBC.com’s staff weighs in with their own personal favorites. Here’s a taste:

Laura, an NBC.com staffer whose favorite summer food is ice cream, said this about the “30 Rock” episode “Believe in the Stars”:
“Oprah on 30 Rock! Need I say more? Okay, fine… if Oprah isn’t enough reason to love this episode, check out Tracy and Jenna’s hilarious social experiment to determine who has it harder: white women or black men. 30 Rock is great at mixing silliness with highbrow comedy and social commentary. If you’re not already convinced, watch this episode and you’ll see why 30 Rock is the smartest comedy on TV.”

Heroes fan KMF4685 had this to say about the “Heroes” episode “Dying of the Light”:
“I really like Arthur Petrelli as the super-villain. Not only is it intriguing because he is connected to almost every main character on the show, but also because his power is the greatest power that we have seen and the most threatening for the Heroes to go against. How can you not like that?”

And what TV fan wouldn’t want to go back in time to enjoy Classic TV on NBC.com. But it doesn’t stop there. NBC.com also has all-new full episodes of “The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien” and “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.” And then there are the retro-thrills of NBC.com’s Classic TV, with favorites such as “Miami Vice” and the “A-Team.” We pity the fool who doesn’t get a kick out of these!

“THERE GOES THE NEIGHBORHOOD” PREMIERES SUN., AUG. 9 ON CBS AND “DATING IN THE DARK” PREMIERES MON., JULY 20 ON ABC

Posted in ABC, CBS, Dating in the Dark, Rossi Morreale, THERE GOES THE NEIGHBORHOOD, TV, TV View, Television, www.tvview.tv on July 8, 2009 by tvviewdottv

“THERE GOES THE NEIGHBORHOOD” PREMIERES SUN., AUG. 9 ON CBS

THERE GOES THE NEIGHBORHOOD, a new seven episode reality-competition series, premieres Sunday, Aug. 9 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. The series features eight families in a suburban neighborhood who are enclosed by a massive 20-foot wall as they compete in family-friendly games for the grand prize of $250,000.

In what promises to be the ultimate social and family bonding experiment, this neighborhood will be cut off from the outside world as it becomes family vs. family in a competition to win upgrades for their lives and their homes. With virtually no electricity and no ability to text-message, watch television or surf the Internet, these families will be forced to reconnect and work together as a team. For the duration of the competition, the eight homes will be surrounded by the daunting wall with no way in or out. Each week, another family will be voted out of the game until one victorious group remains to claim the $250,000 grand prize.

“This show is truly a social experiment,” says executive producer Mike Fleiss. “We’ve never seen anything like it before. An entire neighborhood trapped behind a giant wall.  It’s insane!”

“DATING IN THE DARK” PREMIERES MONDAY, JULY 20 ON ABC

Looks will be taken out of the equation when men and women get to know each other and connect in total darkness on the premiere of the one-hour reality series, “Dating in the Dark,” MONDAY, JULY 20 (10:02-11:00 p.m. ET), on the ABC Television Network.

Hosted by Rossi Morreale, the six-episode “Dating in the Dark” is a sexy social experiment asking the age-old question, “Is Love Blind?” Each week three new single men and three new single women, all looking for love, will live in separate wings of a house and remain totally sequestered from the opposite sex. While they’ll have no chance of seeing each other in the light, they will have the opportunity to date in a completely dark room. The participants won’t be able to see anything, but the audience will get to see EVERYTHING first hand with the help of high-tech infrared cameras.

After several days of wooing, kissing and snuggling in complete darkness, the participants will select one of their dates to be revealed in the light. And after they see each other for the first time, they’ll have to make the ultimate decision… to stay with the person they fell for in the dark, or to move on.

In the premiere episode, “Pilot,” the participants are given some tantalizing clues about the opposite sex in the light, such as an article of clothing of one of their dates that they can touch and smell (different sorts of clues like these will occur in each episode). Near the end of the episode, each participant will work with a professional sketch artist to envision their favorite date (based on imagination and what they have felt in the dark room). When those drawings are shared with the opposite sex, fireworks ensue when they see what their dates expect of them! Once appearances have been revealed, participants will have to decide just how much looks really matter.

Who wants to be a contestant on “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?” Here’s how to apply for the highly-anticipated 10th anniversary edition hosted by Regis Philbin and running for 11 nights in August, Sundays-Thursdays at (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET) from August 9 to August 23 on the ABC Television Network.

There are multiple ways (see below) to become a contestant on “Millionaire,” including the original phone game that was used when the show premiered in 1999 and video submissions – an all-new method that will enable people to upload videos of themselves directly to the show’s producers. Would-be contestants can use more than one method to try to get on the show but will only be selected one time. No former “Hot Seat” players are eligible, and you must be at least 18 years old, a legal U.S. resident and meet all eligibility requirements.

THE PHONE GAME 1-800-999-7878
Phone lines are open for 10 contest days from 7 p.m. ET to 3 a.m. ET, starting at 7 p.m. on July 6th and ending at 3 a.m. ET on July 16th. Call the 800 number and attempt to answer general knowledge questions by putting the 4 answer choices in correct order. People who correctly answer all 5 questions will select one of the 6 available tape dates. A random drawing will be held from among all the people who selected the same tape date to receive an eligibility call to qualify to become a finalist on the program. If a person meets all eligibility requirements they will be flown to New York City with a companion for the opportunity for the chance to play in the hot seat.

Call Limit: One call per person per contest day.

Alternate Entry for Phone Game
A computer game has been established for persons who have physical disability that prevents them from using a telephone to participate in the Phone Game. Go to www.abc.com keyword Millionaire for details.

VIDEO SUBMISSIONS
Effective immediately, up until 3 a.m. ET on July 16, people can submit a 2-minute video explaining why they would make a good contestant and what they would do with the $1 million. The Producer will select people from among all videos submitted to advance to an online test, which is held July 17. Producer will select from among those who received a passing score on the online test to receive an Eligibility Call to qualify to become a finalist on the program. If a person meets all eligibility requirements they will be flown to New York City with a companion for the opportunity for the chance to play in the hot seat. People can go to www.abc.com keyword Millionaire to submit videos.

Julie Chen Hosts Big Brother 11

What group did you fit into in high school? That is the question 12 strangers will face on the season premiere of BIG BROTHER, Thursday, July 9 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

12 strangers will move into the Big Brother house and learn that they will be ‘kickin it old school’ this summer, high school to be exact. The House Guests will be shocked to learn that they will be playing the game in one of four familiar high school cliques – popular, athletes, brainiacs and off beats.  They will compete for food, safety from eviction and luxury prizes as part of their clique. They will also be surprised to discover that a mystery 13th Houseguest is coming to the BIG BROTHER house, to join the game and give an advantage to one of the cliques.

“You may have graduated, but the truth is we never leave high school and this summer we are going to prove it,” says Allison Grodner, Executive Producer of  BIG BROTHER. “From the brains to the jocks to the off-beat, everyone will be able to identify to one of these cliques, giving the viewers a group to root for and against from the very beginning. The division will cause instant drama.”

These are the 12 Houseguests, listed across in alphabetical order by first name, who will compete in the 11th season of BIG BROTHER:

Braden Bacha, 28————————————Casey Turner, 41
Santa Monica, Calif.———————————-Lakeland, Fla.

The houseguests will live and compete in a house that has been transformed into a mean, green, eco-friendly living machine. The interior walls of the house are covered with a reconstituted wood panel product made from re-claimed wood flakes. This eco-friendly material reduced the amount of new lumber used to build the BIG BROTHER house. For the first time ever, the Houseguests will be made fully aware of the amount of waste they create, and will be required to sort, recycle and place all food items in an outdoor manual compost center, as well as an indoor automatic composter. The Head of Household Suite feels like seaside in Big Sur, Calif., where actual driftwood hangs on the copper patina tinted walls while a working waterfall, using recycled water, trickles over stacked stone to serve as a headboard. Zebra wood columns (all faux wood) press into the room framing a contemporary window that overlooks the “surf.”

Following the premiere on Thursday, July 9 (8:00 – 9:00 PM ET/PT), BIG BROTHER will be broadcast three nights weekly, beginning Sunday, July 12 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT), Tuesday, July 14 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) and the LIVE eviction show, hosted by Julie Chen, beginning Thursday, July 16 (8:00-9:00 PM, live ET/delayed PT)
